Edward Bramley 2018 Review

Social Events

The year started off with the famous Freshers Bar Crawl organised by our social secs, Katie and Morgan, which saw plenty of students sporting the famous Ed Bram Bar Crawl t-shirt. The new members settled in well after engaging with the committee and fellow students at Vodka Revolution with the crawl finishing off at CODE. The Social Secretaries were hard at work again in December hosting the annual Winter Ball sponsored by CMS. The snowflaked themed evening at the Holiday Inn was a resounding success with plenty of sore heads seen the morning after! However, there is no rest for the wicked and the social secs are hard at work organising the Summer Ball!

Careers

In October we hosted our annual Careers Dinner. The night was a great success with nine firms sending along their best solicitors to network and dine with Ed Bram members at the Mecure Hotel. Our smiley Careers Secretary, Alisha, put on a great show acting as hostess for the evening! If this sounds like something you fancy taking part in make sure you're on committee next year or at least attend the dinner itself! The solicitors even mingled with the students in the pub afterwards making for an excellent networking oppourtunity. The Employability Handbook was also published which is a neccessary read for any future lawyer!

Charity Work

During the start of the semester our Charities Secretary, Grace, put on a fantastic bake sale which saw lots of money raised for our charity, Sheffield Mind. Thank you to those in committee who baked their own cakes which sold like..well.. hot cakes! Grace was also instrumental in organising the raffle at the Winter Ball which saw some lucky winners take home a bottle of champagne, Pop Tarts Tickets and more!

Sports

Football first and Captain George and the boys have seen great success in the first half to their season. Law FC are performing well in both leagues and look in a good posititons to advance to the knockout stages. Under Maya, Netball have also seen plenty of victories in the Intra Mural League winning their last match a fantastic 27-7! The big Manchester Tournament for both Netball and Football is the next event on the cards and we wish both teams the best of luck!

Volunteering

After recruting over 30 volunteers, the volunteering team have hosted various workshops in local schools and have continued to build on their relationship with Sheffield Volunteering who work in deprived areas, inspiring young children to a possible career in law. Ed Bram continues to promote various events in Sheffield including client advocacy work and surppoting asylum seekers.

Mooting

Jaden and Georgie have been hard at work this semester organising plenty of events for our future barristers within the society. The introductory workshop and Give it a Go sessions went down brilliantly which led nicely to the Novice Moot which saw 40 students take part with BPP providing prizes for the winners. Nottingham was the scene for our Varsity Moot against Hallam University which was a great oppourtunity for the mooters to take part in some high level competition.

Coming up in 2019!...

The Mooters shall not be stopped and will continue to host such events like the Internal Moot and Plea competition and Mitigation Competition. We are also looking to take part in the UK Sports Law Competition and the Nuremberg International Competition. The social secs are busy again organising the 2019 trip the Amsterdam! Follow the Facebook page for more details. Also keep an eye out for Summer Ball tickets! During re-freshers week we are hosting plenty of events including Aspiring Solicitors events, a second hand book sale and plenty of BPP events! We hope you have enjoyed 2018 and Ed Bram can't wait to host all the events in 2019!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
